The current FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, will face a competitor in his bid for re-election. The news was confirmed after the announcement of a new candidate. Tim Mayer, of American nationality and former Formula 1 commissioner, has confirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the International Automobile Federation. The official announcement was made at a press conference held outside the Silverstone circuit. Mayer, 59 years old, revealed last November that he was fired via text message by an assistant to Ben Sulayem. Ben Sulayem, who is from the United Arab Emirates, plans to attend the race that marks the mid-season of Formula 1. Previously, he had declared his intention to seek a second term. The FIA is the governing body of F1, the World Rally Championship, and Formula E, among other series.
