India reveals its lineup for the Adelaide Test

Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw have been selected to represent India in the next Test in Adelaide. Umesh Yadav will complete the trio of fast bowlers. The main questions for India before the Test included the decision on Shaw, the inclusion of a spinner, and the choice of wicketkeeper. Finally, the team resolved these doubts by announcing their lineup. Shaw, after an underperforming performance in practice matches, faced pressure. However, he remained the starting opener.

The Instagram post shows Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, highlighting the series.

In the practice games, Shaw scored 0, 19, 40 and 3. His inaccurate shots worried Gavaskar and Border. Continuity at the top of the order was a key factor in the decision.
The titular spinner, especially with the absence of Ravindra Jadeja due to injury, retained his place. The last time India chose not to include Ashwin in an opening match of the series was on the 2014-15 Australia tour. Regarding the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha instead of Pant. The team seems to have prioritized Saha’s wicketkeeping skills for the pink ball. Yadav was the candidate to be the third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma. He impressed in the only practice match he played.India’s Line-up: 1 Mayank Agarwal, 2 Prithvi Shaw, 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, 4 Virat Kohli (capt.), 5 Ajinkya Rahane, 6 Hanuma Vihari, 7 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Umesh Yadav, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Jasprit Bumrah.
