Shaw, who faced pressure after Shubman Gill’s good performance in the practice matches, was finally backed as an opener. Although his recent scores were not high, the stability in the middle batting order influenced the decision.The absence of Ravindra Jadeja, due to an injury, also influenced the decision to keep Ashwin in the team.
Regarding the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha instead of Pant. The team management seems to have prioritized Saha’s wicketkeeping skills, especially with the pink ball.
