India Defines its Starting Eleven for the Adelaide Test

Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw have been selected to represent India in the Adelaide Test. Umesh Yadav completes the trio of fast bowlers. The main questions India faced before the Test included Shaw’s continuity, the inclusion of a spinner, and the choice of wicketkeeper. Shaw, despite the pressure exerted by Shubman Gill, who performed better in the practice matches, maintains his place as an opener. Although his scores in the practice games were low, continuity was a key factor for the selection.

The titular spinner, especially with the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, also retained his place. The decision not to include Ashwin in the past was criticized, so consistency was maintained this time. As for the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha instead of Pant. The team management seems to have decided that the pink ball will require a more experienced wicketkeeper. Yadav, with experience in Australian tours and a good performance in the practice game, was selected as the third fast bowler in place of Ishant Sharma. The starting eleven of India is as follows:
  • Mayank Agarwal
  • Prithvi Shaw
  • Cheteshwar Pujara
  • Virat Kohli (c)
  • Ajinkya Rahane
  • Hanuma Vihari
  • Wriddhiman Saha (wk)
  • R Ashwin
  • Umesh Yadav
  • Mohammed Shami
  • Jasprit Bumrah
