The India team has revealed its lineup for the upcoming Test in Adelaide, with Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw set to represent the nation. Umesh Yadav completes the trio of fast bowlers.
The team selection faced key decisions, including Shaw’s continuity, the inclusion of a spinner, and the choice of wicketkeeper.
Prithvi Shaw, despite competition from Shubman Gill, retains his place as an opener. Although Gill performed better in practice matches, Shaw, as the starting opener, has demonstrated his ability to be impactful.
Ashwin, the starting spinner, was also confirmed in the team, especially given the absence of Ravindra Jadeja due to injury. As for the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha, preferring him to Pant. The decision seems to be based on Saha’s superior skills as a wicketkeeper, especially with the pink ball.
Umesh Yadav was selected as the third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma.
India’s Line-up: Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah.
