Boxing Ignites: Pacquiao, Usyk, and Rodriguez Shine in an Epic Weekend

A weekend packed with action in the boxing world left us with memorable moments. The return of Manny Pacquiao, the demonstration of power by Oleksandr Usyk, and the consolidation of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez as a dominant force were the highlights. Pacquiao, at 46 years old, came out of retirement and was on the verge of being crowned welterweight champion once again, but the result was a controversial majority draw against WBC champion Mario Barrios. Despite not being as explosive as before, Pacquiao proved that he still has a lot to offer. This effort earned him the number 6 spot in the welterweight ranking, while Barrios remains at number 3. On Saturday, Usyk solidified his position as number 1 in the heavyweight division with a knockout in the fifth round over Daniel Dubois. This was a much more dominant performance by Usyk, who gave Dubois no respite before finishing him in the fifth round. Usyk continues to widen the gap between himself and the rest of the heavyweight division, while Dubois retains his place at number 3. Perhaps the most underrated pound-for-pound boxer is “Bam” Rodriguez, who demolished another opponent by knocking him out in the tenth round, Phumelele Cafu, to unify the super flyweight titles. It’s amazing that Rodriguez, at only 25 years old, is performing at this level before reaching his prime. In other featured fights, Sebastian Fundora forced Tim Tszyu’s retirement in the seventh round, retaining the WBC super welterweight title. With this victory, Fundora remains at number 3. Tszyu remains at number 6 despite suffering another defeat. Brandon Figueroa drops one spot to number 7 in the featherweight division despite winning a controversial decision over Joet Gonzalez. Diego Pacheco also maintains the number 3 spot in the super middleweight rankings after his decision victory over Trevor McCumby. Here are the rankings for the different weight divisions.
