Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping

The Olympic boxing champion in the heavyweight category, Lazizbek Mullojonov, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA). The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer was subjected to an out-of-competition doping control on June 11, where the presence of metasterone was detected. Metasterone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid, known for promoting rapid muscle growth, increased strength, and power.

“The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” the ITA communicated.

If the analysis of sample B is requested and the result of sample A is confirmed, the case will be considered a confirmed anti-doping rule violation, according to the ITA. If the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. The agency added that “the athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations about the result”. Mullojonov also won the bronze medal in the heavyweight event at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.
