Jaime Munguia Cleared of Sanctions After Anti-Doping Test
Former junior middleweight world champion Jaime Munguia has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a failed drug test conducted after his May victory over Bruno Surace. The test, which initially yielded adverse results, was determined to be a false positive. This was caused by “accidental contamination with pregnenolone, a legal and non-prohibited substance.” As a result, Munguia will not face sanctions and his victory over Surace remains intact. Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) was initially flagged by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) weeks after his points victory over Surace, in a rematch after being stopped in December. The Mexican boxer proclaimed his innocence on social media, promising to clear his name. Following the initial result, Munguia’s team requested the analysis of sample B, which also tested positive. However, after a thorough review, Munguia was exonerated.Munguia added:“I want to thank the WBC for reviewing the complete scientific evidence and confirming that there will be no investigation, charge or sanction,” Munguia stated on Tuesday. “We have been notified by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) that they designated UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) as the body responsible for anti-doping regulation, testing, investigation and results management, and after their review of the complete record, they reached the same conclusion.”

“I didn’t cheat, science proves it, and I am grateful to the CMB, BBBofC and UKAD for recognizing this truth… I am ready to leave this behind and move forward with my career. I hope to return to the ring soon, and I deeply appreciate everyone, especially my family, team, fans and sponsors, who supported me during this test”.
