Anthony Joshua Considers Fights in Africa Before Facing Tyson Fury

The renowned boxer Anthony Joshua is evaluating offers to fight in Ghana and Nigeria before his expected match against Tyson Fury in 2026, according to statements from Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom. Joshua, who will turn 36 next week, hasn’t stepped into the ring since his technical knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Currently recovered from an elbow injury, Hearn indicates that the boxer could return to action at the end of this year or the beginning of 2026.

Among Joshua’s possible opponents are Martin Bakole and Deontay Wilder, former WBC heavyweight champion. Bakole, 33, originally from Congo, could be the rival in Nigeria, while Wilder, 40, seeks his third victory in six fights.

Initially I thought not, but now it’s possible that Joshua will fight this year.

Eddie Hearn
Hearn revealed that Joshua is focused and motivated to become a three-time heavyweight world champion. In addition, proposals have been received from Africa, something that Joshua wants to realize before retiring. Hearn also mentioned that Joshua and his team’s priority is to secure the fight against Tyson Fury, his British rival. Both boxers have been in talks for this highly anticipated match for the last five years.
Hearn has held conversations about the Joshua vs. Fury fight with Turki Alalshikh, a key figure in the boxing world, to finalize this important event. Hearn highlighted Joshua’s desire to face Fury and his motivation to achieve victory. Hearn explained that Joshua seeks to regain competitive rhythm before the big fight in 2026. The intention is for Joshua to stay active and gain momentum, which is great news for the fans. Hearn indicated that Alalshikh could be the key to finalizing the fight against Fury, due to his ability to organize the most important events in boxing. Hearn revealed that Alalshikh has a plan for Joshua, which includes the fight against Tyson Fury, and that they are ready to carry it out.
