Josh Taylor Retires from Boxing Due to Eye Problems: End of a Legend
The undisputed former champion Josh Taylor, at 34 years old, has announced his retirement from boxing due to a recurring eye injury. Taylor, the first British boxer to be undisputed world champion in the four-belt era, made this decision after receiving medical advice.

As previously publicized, I have had a recurring issue with my eye which, unfortunately, means I now have to bring my career to an end or risk losing my sight.

Taylor won the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and gold in Glasgow in 2014. His professional career took off with seven consecutive knockout victories, achieving his first world title in his fifteenth fight by defeating Ivan Baranchyk. In 2019, Taylor won the final of the World Boxing Super Series, defeating Regis Prograis at the O2 Arena in London, where he also unified the super lightweight division, obtaining the WBA title. In 2021, he became the undisputed champion by defeating José Ramírez in Las Vegas, adding the WBC and WBO belts to his collection. Taylor’s retirement comes after three consecutive points defeats against Ekow Essuman in May, Catterall in May last year, and Teofimo López in June 2023.

Certainly, it’s not the way I wanted to retire, but I have to listen to the doctors and those around me.
