Fundora vs. Thurman: World Title Defense Postponed Due to Injury

The expected defense of Sebastian Fundora’s WBC super welterweight title against Keith Thurman, scheduled for October 25, has been postponed. The main reason behind this decision is a hand injury Fundora suffered during his training. Both Fundora’s manager, Sampson Lewkowicz, and representatives from Premier Boxing Champions confirmed the news of the injury and the postponement. The entire event will be affected by this situation.

“Fundora will return in January 2026,” Lewkowicz declared.

Fundora and Thurman were scheduled to headline the “PBC on Prime” pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. PBC representatives have expressed their desire to reschedule the fight as soon as possible, once the severity of Fundora’s injury and the estimated recovery time are determined. The co-main event, which would feature the clash between WBC super lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster and featherweight champion Stephen Fulton, will also be rescheduled for a later date. This is the second time the Foster-Fulton fight has been postponed, as it was initially planned for August as part of the proposed fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach, which ultimately did not materialize. Fundora, with a record of 23-1-1 and 15 knockouts, was expecting to fight for the third time in 2025. This year, he achieved knockout victories over Tim Tszyu and Chordale Booker. The fight against Thurman represented a high-profile title defense for “The Towering Inferno”. Thurman, with a record of 36-1 and 23 knockouts, aimed to conquer super welterweight gold for the second time. Last March, an injury forced him to withdraw from a WBC title fight against Tszyu, being replaced by Fundora, who ultimately won the title. Thurman, 36 years old, has only fought once since 2022, achieving a technical knockout victory over Brock Jarvis in March 2025.
