The British Boxing Board of Control’s Southern Area Council has imposed a £10,000 fine (approximately $14,000) on Chris Eubank Jr. for misuse of social media. Eubank Jr. appeared before the council last week for allegedly using a sauna to lose weight before his fight against Conor Benn in April. A video posted on social media apparently showed Eubank using a sauna to reach the 160-pound weight limit in the middleweight category before the fight. Eubank Jr. defeated Benn on points, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. While he wasn’t fined for using a sauna, which is prohibited by the council, he was sanctioned for the inappropriate use of social media.

“Mr. Eubank Jnr. was found in breach of Regulation 25 for the misuse of social media,” the British Boxing Board of Control Southern Area Council said in a statement.

The South Area Council sanctioned Mr. Eubank Jnr. with the sum of 10,000 pounds sterling. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Mr. Eubank Jnr. was late for the official weigh-in ceremony for the fight in question and received a severe reprimand which was included in his record by the South Area Council. Eubank Jr. was also fined for not making weight before the fight, weighing 160.2 pounds on his first attempt and 160.05 pounds on his second attempt the day before the match. He was fined £375,000. However, he stayed within the 10-pound rehydration limit on fight day. Eubank Jr. and Benn will face each other again on September 20 in London, with a location yet to be determined.
