Jaron “Boots” Ennis Shows His Power in His 154-Pound Debut

In a stunning debut in the 154-pound category, Jaron “Boots” Ennis knocked out Uisma Lima in the first round. The fight, held at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Ennis’ hometown, lasted only two minutes, enough time for “Boots” to send his opponent to the canvas twice. From the start, Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) demonstrated his superiority over a surpassed rival. The former welterweight champion, now interim WBA super welterweight champion, showed off his ability to switch stances and land precise punches.

I did what I had to do. I’m here at 154 pounds and sent a message, so bring me the big names.

After an initial exchange of blows, Ennis connected with a left hook that sent Lima to the canvas for the first time. Although Lima (14-2, 10 KOs) got up, he was visibly affected. Ennis gave no respite and continued to punish his opponent with a series of blows that knocked him down again. Despite Lima getting back on his feet once more, the fight was stopped by the referee at 1:58.

I sent a great message. They know what’s up and they know who I want.

This victory opens the doors to an expected showdown between Ennis and the WBC interim champion, Vergil Ortiz, who will face Erickson Lubin on November 8. Although a fight between Ennis and Ortiz was speculated this year, it ultimately did not materialize. Ennis, after his victory against Lima, who had not faced high-level rivals, hopes that the fight against Ortiz can now be finalized in 2026.

It’s going to happen next. I know [Ortiz] is focused on his fight. I want Vergil Ortiz next, but if he doesn’t want it, I’ll fight [Jermell] Charlo, [Sebastian] Fundora, or Xander [Zayas]. Anyone can get it. This division is mine.
