“Boots” Ennis Shows His Power in the 154-Pound Debut

Jaron “Boots” Ennis wasted no time making his mark in his debut in the 154-pound category. In a fight held at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, his hometown, Ennis needed only two minutes to overcome Uisma Lima, achieving a technical knockout victory in the first round. The match, which on paper was already expected to be uneven, unfolded even more decisively. Ennis, with an undefeated record of 35-0 and 31 knockouts, demonstrated his superiority against an opponent who could not counter the skill of the former world welterweight champion, now interim WBA champion in the super welterweight division.

I did what I had to do. I’m here at 154 pounds and I made a statement, so bring me those names.

From the start, Ennis and Lima exchanged blows, but “Boots” took the initiative with a left hook that hit his opponent’s head, followed by a combination that resulted in the first knockdown. Although Lima got up, he was visibly affected. Ennis, without giving respite, continued punishing Lima with a series of punches to the face and body, achieving a second knockdown. Despite Lima recovering again, he could not offer resistance, and a new combination forced the referee to stop the fight at minute 1:58.

I sent a great message. They know what it’s about and they know who I want.

This victory paves the way for an expected showdown between Ennis and Vergil Ortiz, WBC interim champion and undefeated. Ortiz is scheduled to fight Erickson Lubin on November 8. Although a match between Ennis and Ortiz was speculated this year, it did not materialize. Now, Ennis, after his victory over Lima, feels that there are no obstacles to a fight with Ortiz in 2026.

It’s going to happen, the next one. I know Ortiz is focused on his fight. I want Vergil Ortiz, but if he doesn’t want it, I’d fight Charlo, Fundora, or Zayas. Anyone can get it. This division is mine.
