Domestic Violence Case Against Gervonta Davis Dismissed

The domestic violence case against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been dismissed. According to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts website, the misdemeanor battery charge against Davis, stemming from an alleged domestic altercation with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day, was formally dismissed Tuesday morning after the woman declined to prosecute the boxer.

This case was dismissed as the victim declines to prosecute according to her attorney, Lindsey Chase, Esq. and her feelings which we confirmed directly with the Assistant State Attorney handling the case.

The office also stated that the witness to the incident, the victim’s mother, did not cooperate either and did not appear, after being summoned for a pre-presentation conference on August 7. Attempts to contact the witness (mother) by phone were unsuccessful. Davis was arrested in Miami Beach, transferred to the Doral Police Department, and held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on July 11. He was released that same day after posting a $10,000 bail. According to the police report, Davis’s ex-girlfriend told the police that she had a verbal argument with the boxer over “personal matters and Gervonta’s insecurities about his son’s sexuality.” Davis arrived at her residence at 5:04 p.m. ET on June 15 to pick up her children, when the situation escalated. After putting both children in Davis’s car, she alleged that Davis hit her “on the back of the head with a closed fist” and slapped her in the face. After regaining custody of her children during the incident, the woman went to a local hospital for medical treatment. A note in the police report also suggested that there had been “approximately 10” undocumented physical altercations between Davis and his ex-girlfriend. Davis’s original court hearing was scheduled for July 29, but it was postponed until Tuesday, and the case was terminated and closed by Judge Elisabeth Maria Espinosa Marin. Davis was vaguely linked to a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August, after they both fought to a controversial majority draw in March. However, the fight was never formally announced, and it is unknown when Davis will return to the ring.
