Danny García Announces His Return to the Ring at the Barclays Center
The former two-division world champion, Danny García, is preparing for a final performance in boxing. “Farewell to Brooklyn” is the name given to this event, which will mark García’s return to the ring against Daniel González on October 18 at the Barclays Center. The event, promoted by Swift Promotions, García’s company, promises to be a memorable night for the fans.García, with a record of 37-4 and 21 KOs, has maintained relatively low activity in recent years, with only four fights since 2020. His last fight was in September 2024, where he suffered a defeat against Erislandy Lara for the WBA middleweight title. This time, the Philadelphia boxer will face Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) in a 10-round bout in the super welterweight category. Garcia has hinted that this could be his last appearance in boxing, and has expressed his desire to return to the place where he headlined the first Barclays boxing event in 2012.García, former world champion in the 140 and 147 pound categories, began his professional career in 2007. He is expected to be the favorite in this matchup against González, who will be looking for his third consecutive victory. There’s nothing like a great fight night at the Barclays Center. I had to do this event for the fans and show them how much I’ve appreciated them all this time. The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing filled with rising young talents. It will be the DSG show in Brooklyn once more on October 18th!
