Kim Clavel Conquers World Championship in Two Divisions
Canadian boxer Kim Clavel (22-2, 3 KOs) made history on Saturday by becoming a two-division world champion. She achieved this feat by defeating Sol Cudos (10-1-2, 3 KOs) by unanimous decision and obtaining the IBF strawweight title.
Clavel, fighting in her hometown of Montreal, captivated the audience at the Theatre St-Denis with scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92. Her speed and combination of punches were superior to those of her opponent, dominating the exchanges throughout the fight. As a result, Clavel moves up two positions and is ranked number 3 in the women’s strawweight division, while Cudos drops to number 4.
In another outstanding performance, two-time Canadian Olympian Tamm Thibeault (4-0, 3 KOs) achieved a technical knockout in the first round against Cristina Mazzotta in her professional debut in her home province. Thibeault, who is the number 1 contender for the IBF and WBA, moved up one spot in the middleweight rankings, placing at number 2, and is emerging as a rising star.
The rankings are updated every Tuesday, based on recent fights, head-to-head matchups, and the quality of opponents. However, until the boxers face each other, there is a degree of subjectivity in the rankings. Boxers who have not fought in 18 months and have no scheduled fights will be removed from the rankings until they compete again.
