Terence Crawford Destroys Canelo Álvarez in Historic Fight
More than 41 million viewers tuned in to Netflix to witness Terence Crawford’s victory over Canelo Álvarez, in an event that marked a milestone in the boxing world. The fight, held Saturday night at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, was a resounding success, as announced by the streaming platform on Monday.
Although the Canelo-Crawford fight did not exceed the 108 million viewers (125 million using the live+1 metric) who watched the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson last November, it did position itself as the most-watched men’s boxing championship fight of the century.
Netflix revealed that the event reached a peak of over 24 million concurrent streams. In addition, the main event recorded an average minute audience (AMA) of 36.6 million live+SD viewers (same day), according to VideoAmp and Netflix.
The fight ranked first on Netflix in 30 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and Australia, and also placed in the top 10 in another 91 countries.
The event on Saturday, the first boxing match held at Allegiant Stadium, generated a box office of over $47 million, the highest in the stadium’s history and the third largest in boxing history, surpassed only by Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao ($72 million) and Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor ($55 million).
