Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford: An Epic Duel in Las Vegas

The boxing world is preparing for a match that promises to be historic: the mega fight between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford.

Crawford will challenge Álvarez, the newly crowned undisputed super middleweight champion, on September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The confirmation of this fight came after Álvarez’s unanimous decision victory over William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After the fight, Crawford entered the ring for a face-off with Álvarez, thus sealing this anticipated match.

Crawford, 37, will move up two weight classes to face Álvarez.

His last fight was in August, where he defeated Israil Madrimov to win a title at 154 pounds. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is a world champion in four divisions and one of three boxers to become undisputed champion in two weight classes in the four-belt era (since 2004). He won his first title at 135 pounds and became undisputed at 140 and 147 pounds.

If Crawford defeats Álvarez, he would become the first undisputed champion in three weight classes.

Álvarez, 34, is a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion. After failing to win the WBA light heavyweight title against Dmitry Bivol in 2022, Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) returned to 168 pounds, where he has won six consecutive fights.

The Álvarez-Crawford event will be the first promoted by TKO Boxing, of Turki Alalshikh and Dana White, according to Alalshikh’s announcement on his X account. The television platform for the event will be announced later.

The fight will take place on a Friday, avoiding competition from college football and the following day’s UFC Fight Night event. In addition, it will be the first boxing match to be held at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, which opened in July 2020.
