Cecilia Braekhus Retires with Victory and Two World Titles

The undisputed former welterweight champion, Cecilia Braekhus, known as “The First Lady”, said goodbye to professional boxing with a convincing victory. Braekhus (39-2-1, 9 KOs) defeated Ema Kozin (24-2-1, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision on Saturday, securing the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles at the Nova Spektrum in her native Norway. The judges scored the fight 97-93, 96-94, and 98-92 in favor of Braekhus, who became a champion in a second weight class. Before the fight, Braekhus, 44, had announced that this would be her last fight. Despite this, she showed that she still had a lot to offer. Kozin started with impetus, but Braekhus quickly imposed her rhythm, connecting effective blows to the body and head of her Slovenian opponent. Kozin, whose only other defeat was against Claressa Shields, had difficulty deciphering Braekhus and received several combinations before an audience of 3,000 fans cheering for their compatriot.

I want to thank the boxing community all over the world, my friends in England, in Los Angeles, everyone. I am very happy.
