Boxing: Welterweight Rankings Reconfigured. Cissokho Ascends After Stanionis’ Departure

Stanionis Returns with Victory by Unanimous Decision

Eimantas Stanionis, former WBA welterweight champion, returned to the ring after being stopped by Jaron “Boots” Ennis, securing a unanimous decision victory over Jabulani Makhense. The fight, scheduled for 10 rounds, took place at a catchweight of 150 pounds at the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania. Stanionis dominated the fight in his return home, with scorecards of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91 in his favor. This was only his fourth fight since 2022. Stanionis could pursue a world title in a new weight category, but his victory at a catchweight is not enough to position him in the super welterweight division. Following Stanionis’s move up from welterweight, he has been removed from the 147-pound rankings. Souleymane Cissokho enters the rankings at number 10.

Boxing rankings by division highlight the best in each weight category. Rankings will be updated according to recent results and performances. Boxers who announce their move to a new weight category will be ranked in that new division, if applicable, only after fighting in that category. Boxers currently holding titles in two divisions may be ranked in both.

Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer may re-enter the rankings after their next fight.
