Boxing Legends Pay Tribute to Ricky Hatton

In an emotional ceremony held in Manchester, former world boxing champions gathered to honor the memory of Ricky Hatton, known as the “people’s champion”. The farewell was attended by prominent figures from sports and celebrities, who remembered a local hero who always kept his feet on the ground, despite his success and fame in the world of boxing.

He was a fantastic boxer, one of the best. He inspired many boxers like us. He will be remembered as one of the greatest in Great Britain. He was very cheerful, funny and very respected. He was always the people’s champion.

Among the attendees were Tyson Fury and Frank Bruno, both former heavyweight world champions, and Barry McGuigan, former featherweight world champion. McGuigan recalled Hatton’s career, from his beginnings as a promising amateur to becoming a world champion, and how he led thousands of fans in epic battles in Las Vegas against figures like Floyd Mayweather and José Luis Castillo. In reference to the large influx of fans, many dressed in the light blue of Manchester City, Hatton’s favorite team, McGuigan commented:

It’s incredible, but it doesn’t surprise me because he was a star, an exceptional human being. I am here with my two children because he demands the respect that a boxing hero demands. He is an amazing guy and was a phenomenal boxer, simply incredible. He united people.
